Privacy Policy

How mysalary.nz handles the information you share — kept as plain and honest as the salary data itself.

In short

mysalary.nz is a salary transparency site. People share what they're paid anonymously — no account, name, or email address is ever required to contribute or browse. We publish that data in aggregated and individual-but-anonymous form so you can see what people in your role actually earn, and we use no advertising trackers and no analytics scripts.

Who we are

We are the team behind mysalary.nz (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information we handle, why, and your rights under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

Questions or requests about your privacy can be sent to privacy@mysalary.nz.

What we collect

Salary submissions (the core of the site). When you use our salary form you can choose to share:

We deliberately do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other identifier. A submission is a standalone entry with no direct link back to you.

Technical data. Like most websites, web servers record routine technical logs (e.g. IP address, browser type, pages viewed) to operate and secure the service. We don't use this to identify individual visitors.

How we use salary submissions

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies, all first-party:

Cookies can be cleared at any time in your browser settings without affecting the site, though you may lose an in-progress draft.

Third parties

We don't work with ad networks, advertisers, or third-party analytics providers.

Where and how long we keep data

Data is stored in a database on our managed server. We keep salary submissions for as long as the site operates, since removing them would distort the published statistics.

Ask us and we'll remove a specific submission, or (if you believe a submission relates to you) anonymise the company and identifying details. Please get in touch at privacy@mysalary.nz and we'll do our best to help — although because submissions are anonymous, we may not always be able to locate the exact entry you mean.

Your rights

The Privacy Act 2020 gives you rights to access and correct personal information we hold about you. To exercise these, or to complain about our handling of your information, email privacy@mysalary.nz. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (www.privacy.org.nz).

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the data we hold — submissions are written to the database only after passing our spam checks, the site is served over HTTPS, and direct access to the data requires an authenticated administrator login. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data as best we can.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make changes, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change, and significant changes will be called out on the homepage.
